Introduction
As the topic header suggests we would try to make changes to the Label of a UI field in Fusion Cloud environment. While some of you might be thinking what possible differences could that make let-me tell you it indeed makes a very positive impact and at times may even appear as a showstopper ( a typical example being using a label of Employee instead of Worker as the latter name does denotes a different meaning and some Business User/HR Leader would definitely prefer a name which has a more positive vibes and feelings coming through). Another reason for a Label Change could be that the legacy application was using a different term for a specific word and Business would like to continue with the same. Some common examples being:
In this particular example, we will demonstrate how we can change the Label of a Fusion Field (Grade) to Rank.
As a first step, we need to login to Fusion Cloud Application with a user who has admin privileges (HCM_IMPL) in this case
Next, we would need to activate a sandbox
Once we click on the ‘Customize Pages’ link a popup message window will appear
Next click on the ‘Activate Sandbox’ button and it would open up all available sandboxes. You may either choose any existing ones or create a new one. We would use an existing sandbox for this example
Click on the ‘Set as Active’ Button and the sandbox will be active which can be confirmed from a message which would appear on top of the page
Next, we need to navigate to Person Management from the navigator icon
This would open up the Person Management Search window
Next, we need to search for a person record
Now, we need to click on the name and this would take us to the Person Management Page
Note: While you are able to view two tabs (Employment Terms and Assignment) it might be the case that you are only able to view the Assignment tab (this is because the current environment has a 3 tier setup and if yours is a 2 tier one then the Employment Terms tab wont exist)
Scroll down a little and under the ‘Job Details’ section we should be able to see the field Grade
Now we need to click on the user name (hcm_impl in this case) and select the ‘Customize Pages’ option from the drop down list as shown:
As soon as we click on the ‘Customize Pages’ link a new popup window which appear which will give us an option to select the customization level (by default the same is at HCMOrganization). For this example, we need to choose the ‘Site’ option.
Once we choose one of the available options and click ‘Ok’ the current page would display a horizontal layer (which would have customization options)
Next, we need to click on the ‘View’ option and select the ‘Source’ Option
Next, we need to click on the Grade label and this would open a new window (asking confirmation about task flow edits)
Click on ‘Edit’ and it will open the Component Properties window for Grade
Next, hover your mouse on the drop down list under Label and select ‘Expression Builder’
Next, select the ‘Type a value or expression field’ and replace the content with the new value ‘Rank’
Click on ‘Test’ to validate the same
Click on ‘Ok’ and the following screen should appear:
Click on the ‘Apply’ button followed by ‘Ok’ and the changes should be visible on the Fusion Cloud UI.
And with this we would end this article. We can do a lot many interesting things using Page composer wherein we could show/hide some field (using conditional logic such that a specific text would be visible to all users having one role say HR Analyst but not to others), but we would deal with those and many more other features in the coming articles. This article was just to showcase the most basic use of page composer and also making everyone comfortable with the Page composer functionality in Fusion Cloud.
I hope this was useful and would help you all in your current or future projects.
Thanks for your time and have a nice day!
