In my previous article, BUSINESS UNITS AND SET IDS IN ORACLE FUSION HCM - PART 1, i covered the topic of how to setup SETIDs for Jobs. In this one, let me explain how to setup SETIDs for Locations and Departments Work Structures.
Now let's talk about Locations. So when it comes to Locations, the Sales and Marketing BUs are located at Toronto. The Manufacturing BU is located in Montreal. So the way that I could do this example is for the Sales and Marketing BUs I am going to use a Set ID called 'JGTORONTO'and for the Manufacturing BU, I'm going to use a set id called 'JGMONTREAL'.
Now I am not doing a partitioning between every single business unit, I am partitioning the values of Locations of Manufacturing BU from the Sales and Marketing BUs but the Sales and Marketing BUs are going to share the same setid. So again, going back over to my set up, continuing with setting up Set IDs, I would set up 'JGTORONTO' and 'JGMONTREAL'. I have already set up my business units from the previous example given in previous article, now I would do my mapping for locations. The Manufacturing BU is going to use 'JGMONTREAL' for locations, and both the Sales and Marketing BUs are going to use 'JGTORONTO' for locations.
The last example that I want to talk about is Departments. So with Departments, I just wanted to do a third option. So I am going to do it a little bit different here. For managing reference Set IDs for Departments, I have decided not to set up a new Set ID and use COMMON setid which is delivery by Oracle because Sales, Manufacturing and Marketing BUs will share all of their Departments.
Once I have set up the following
1. SETID -> JGSALES, JGMRKT, JGMFG, JGMONTREAL & JGTORONTO
2. Business Units ->Sales, Marketing and Manufacturing and have done mapping
I would say that
- Sales BU use JGSALES for jobs, Sales use JGTORONTO for locations, and Sales are going to use COMMON for departments.
- Marketing use JGMRKT for jobs, Marketing use JGTORONTO for locations, and Marketing are going to use COMMON for departments.
- Manufacturing use JGMRKT for jobs, Manufacturing use JGMONTREAL for locations, and Manufacturing are going to use COMMON for departments.
Now that the setid and business units are mapped, I would create the following work structures:
Jobs
Sales Representative, Sales Manager, Sales Executive by choosing reference SETID 'JGSALES'
Marketing Manager, Marketing Coordinator, Marketing Specialist by choosing reference SETID 'JGMRKT'
Sales Plant Operator, Production Manager, Parts Assembler by choosing reference SETID 'JGMFG'
Locations
Toroto by choosing reference SETID JGTORONTO
Montreal by choosing reference SETID JGMONTREAL
Departments
HR, sales, Manufacturing all tied to COMMON SETID.
Grades are another item that we could share or restrict between our business units.
Hope by now you have a better understanding of Business Units, SETIDs, mapping it. In my next artcile (video), I am going to demo on how to create SETIDs, Business Units, Jobs, Locations and Departments.
