How can you become an Oracle Financial Functional Consultant?
We recently spoke with aur alumna, Shyamolie Shrivastav, who is a Chartered Accountant, and has embarked on an exciting career as a Financial Consultant at Fusion Practices. This conversation will give young graduates and freshers interesting insights on how to embark on a successful financial consultant career in the world of IT.
- Can you tell us a little about how you got here, and how you zeroed in on this career path?
We all know the IT industry has flourished and continues to flourish despite the hard times that we all have faced. Being a Chartered Accountant, I am well versed with all the accounting knowledge expected of me. However, I felt that it is as much important to understand the flow of systems that generate various reports we all refer to from time to time. Needless to say that ERP system is the backbone of any accounting domain. So studying various aspects of an ERP was of an interest to me and that is why I chose this career path. - So what is your current role, and how did you get here?
I currently work with Fusion Practices as a Functional Consultant. I provide consultation services on Oracle Property Manager which is used for the purpose of lease management. To get here I had to train myself on various modules of Oracle and understand how they are linked to each other. I kept going back to the training videos on A2F whenever I faced any challenges in understanding fundamental concepts of Oracle. The great part of A2F is that it has all the material at your disposal. You can easily download the material if you do not wish to watch the videos all over again. As I had not worked on this ERP before it was a great deal of work but all said and done I could manage to get through.
- Who can look for a career path like this? โ
If you are a person who is looking forward to working with MNCs and you are interested in understanding the whereabouts of any ERP then this is what you can definitely venture in. You will be interacting with clients upfront and showcasing your knowledge based on which most of system design implementations will take place. Having said that, you do not lose on your domain knowledge in accounting/finance because in order to understand the system you also need to know what reports the system should be capable of generating. So here you will be working both before and after the system has been implemented.
- Some of the key skills โ
All that this job would require from you is a learning curve and the right communication skills. If you have these, you are good to go.
