Introduction

Many a times there is a need that we would like to stop leave accruals for a specific period when the Employee is on a Sabbatical or on Leave of Absence. If we have a standard logic for accruing leave (say 16 hours month on month) then the leaves will accrued every month irrespective of whether Employee is on "Leave of Absence" or not.

So, in order to ensure that accruals are stopped periodically for a specific period ( determined in this case by Assignment Status of "Inactive-Unpaid LOA") we would need to have additional configuration added on the Expression Builder under Accrual Matrix section.

We will demonstrate the entire process with detailed steps in this article.

So, without further ado let’s get started.

Creating a New Assignment Status named “Inactive-Unpaid LOA”

One can define a new assignment status using following navigation:

Setup and Maintenance -> Search (Manage Assignment Status) -> Create

Creating a New Absence Accrual Plan

We would create a new Absence Accrual Plan (named Holiday which will have following details)

Accrual Logic

Creating a New Employee Record and Verifying Results

Now the setup is complete and we will create a new employee record and verify results. This new employee will have the following details

Employee Hire Date: 15-Feb-2020

Date on which Employee goes on LOA: 01-Apr-2020

Date on which Employee returns from LOA: 01-Jul-2020

Now, we can navigate to “Absences -> Absence Records”, choose Holiday Plan, and check for balance as on 01-Jul-2020 

And we could verify that there has not been accrual of leaves during the period when employee was on “Leave of Absence”.

Note: One may even get the same results using a custom Fast Formula (but why use Custom Code when seeded configuration options are available).
