Introduction

In a typical ERP application there is always a need to either add or remove menu items. We used to do this with the use of Form Functions in EBS (Oracle E Business Suite) where we added the same forms to specific request groups which were in turn associated with a Responsibility. In Fusion Cloud Applications, however, this is accomplished using a simpler method. In this article we will demonstrate that method. We will remove one of the seeded links from the Main (Navigator) Menu.

First of all, we would need to login to the application with a user with Admin access (For example, HCM_IMPL in this case).

When we click on the sign-in button we will be taken to the Homepage

Click on the Navigator Icon (Horizontal Lines) on the top-left side of the page. This will show the entire Menu.

Click on 'Spaces' under the Tools option in the Navigator Menu.

In this example we will try to remove this menu-item (Spaces) from the Main Menu.

Choose the 'Setup and Maintenance' link from the Navigator menu.

When you click on the link a new window will open.

Search for the 'Manage Menu Customization' task.

We will click on the link and it would take us to a new page, which appears as shown below:

Err!  We landed up with an Error Message in Red Text and it says -

Note! Homepage or Navigator menu customization is no longer supported in this UI. You may review the contents of a menu item but no changes will be written to the MDS repository.

A click on the link 'Structure' under Tools option will take us to a new screen.

Search for Tools. Click on the Arrow icon (this will expand the node to display all child nodes).

Next, we need to select the ‘Spaces’ link and click on the Edit Button (note that currently the ‘Visible’ property for the same is set to Yes). The moment you press the Edit Button a popup message will be displayed seeking confirmation for activating sandbox.

Choose one of the available sandboxes and activate the same (by pressing the ‘Set as Active’ Button).

A warning message will be displayed stating that you will be taken to the homepage. Choose 'YES' and proceed.

We should land up at the Homepage with a Message displaying the Sandbox Name, as shown below:

Next, we will navigate to the same place (Navigator-> Structure->Tools->Spaces) and click on the same.

A mouse click on the link 'Spaces' will take us to its property section (Edit Page Entry)

We will see that the Visible Property is set to ‘Yes’; we need to change it to ‘No’.

Next, we should click on ‘Save and Close’. We will see that the ‘Spaces’ link is not visible in the Navigator menu. Also, you would notice that the ‘Visible’ property which was displaying a Tick Option is no longer there.

This way we may remove other links too, as per our requirements. This property even allows for selective visibility of the links, and this can be achieved using EL (Expression language), which allows us to build custom logic for the same. But it is an altogether separate topic which would be discussed in a separate article.

That’s it for now. I hope you all learned something from this.

Do try the same at your end and feel free to get back with your observations; it would be nice to hear from all of you.

Good Bye!
