As mentioned in my previous article , there are two ways of creating reports in OTBI, one is using BI Composer and the other one is BI Answers. In today’s session, let’s see what the features of Analysis Editor are and how to create a report using BI Answers. When you click on the Browse catalog, it opens up a different window for you. Let me have this selected. So it is basically an Oracle BA tool. This tool offers are a rich set of features which are not available in the composite wizard. So this is where we have an option of going ahead and building a new OTBA report. In this tool, there is an option to create cross subject area analyses, which means you can create analyses that combine data from more than one subject area.
The Analysis editor is technically advanced compared to the BI Composer Wizard. The Analysis editor contains the following tabs:
Criteria tab — By using the Criteria Tab you build up a report. It lets you specify the criteria for an analysis, including columns and filters. You can specify the order in which the results should be returned, formatting (such as headings, number of decimal places, styles such as fonts and colors, and conditional formatting), and column formulas (such as adding a Rank or Percentile function).
Results tab —The Results tab is where you can view the results of the OTBA report based on the columns that were extracted onto the Criteria tab. It lets you create different views of the analysis results such as graphs, tickers, and pivot tables. You can also add or modify selection steps.
Prompts tab — The prompts tab is where you can build various kinds of prompts. This tab lets you create prompts that allow users to select values to filter an analysis or analyses on a dashboard. Prompts allow users to select values that dynamically filter all views within the analysis or analyses.
• Table prompts are something which appears on top of the report. So on top of the report, you have these prompts. You select those values.
• In addition to that, you can also have prompts using variables. These variables can be set. And these variables can be used across an application.
• You can have prompts using images. For instance, I mean, you can have a certain image, clicking on which, you can expect the system to take you to a certain location. So that is something which can be achieved.
• You can have currency prompts necessarily for currency conversions.
Advanced tab — This tab lets you edit XML code and examine the logical SQL statement that was generated for an analysis. You can use the existing SQL statement as the basis for creating a new analysis. Additional filters for the report can be added in the Advanced Tab. Using this tab, you can generate XML and save into the system. This particular XML can be used as a data source in BI Publisher Report and create complex report and further customization can be done in BI Publisher Report.
The following example demonstrates steps how to create a simple real-time analysis from one subject area.
1. In the Reports and Analytics work area, click Browse Catalog.
2. Click New and select Analysis.
3. In the Select Subject Area window, select the Workforce Management - Worker Assignment Real Time subject area.
4. In the Subject Area region of the Criteria tab, expand the Department folder.
5. Click Name, Location Name and drag it to the Selected Columns area.
6. Expand the Worker Assignment folder.
7. Click Head Count and drag it to the Selected Columns area to the right of the Department Name column.
8. Click the Results tab to see the results of the analysis.
9. Click the Criteria tab again to return to the analysis definition.
10. Click the Edit Button and enter Title Name - 'Headcount by Department'.
11. Click Save Analysis.
12. Save to My Folders, and enter Headcount by Department in the Name field, and enter a description for your analysis.
