Oracle Fusion Transaction Business Intelligence (OTBI) in Fusion HCM- Part 3
As discussed in the earlier article, Oracle Fusion Transaction Business Intelligence(OTBI) offers many pre-built reports that users can further tailor to their needs. These pre-configured analyses, dashboards, and reports are designed to fulfil business intelligence requirements. Depending on your specific needs, you may modify these reports or create new ones. With the appropriate roles, you can customise analytics and reports and share them for broader use.
Saving Analytics and Reports
Analytics, dashboards, and reports are stored within the business intelligence (BI) catalog, alongside other objects. The catalog is organised into a hierarchical structure, with My Folders and Shared Folders at the highest level. A key folder within this structure is the Custom folder, located under Shared Folders.
My Folders
When you create a report, you can save it in the ‘My Folder’ section within the Oracle BI Presentation Catalog, ensuring that only you have access to it.
Shared Folders
With the correct roles, you can also save your custom analytics or reports in Shared Folders, making them accessible to others with the appropriate permissions. It’s recommended to save these in the Custom subfolder, where subfolders are organised by product family.
Custom Folder
Storing all custom objects in the Custom folder offers several advantages:
- Patches may update predefined analytics and reports outside the Custom folder, but by keeping customised versions within this folder, you prevent them from being affected. Customisations saved outside the Custom folder might be lost during upgrades.
- This organisation allows you to easily find and identify customised objects.
- You can make changes to objects in the Custom folder without affecting the security of the original objects. All custom analytics and reports remain intact if saved in the Custom subfolder within Shared Folders or in My Folders in the business intelligence (BI) catalog.

Security for Analytics and Reports
Users with the appropriate roles in Oracle HCM Cloud have access to Oracle Fusion Transaction Business Intelligence, allowing them to create analyses that supports decision-making.
Oracle Fusion Transaction Business Intelligence Security
Subject areas
Subject areas are protected by duty roles, which grant access based on functional security. These roles are typically named with the term “Transaction Analysis Duty,” such as Workforce Transaction Analysis Duty, to indicate the specific access they provide.
Business Intelligence Catalog Folders
The folders in the Business Intelligence Catalog are secured using the same duty roles that control access to the subject areas. Consequently, a user with the Workforce Transaction Analysis Duty role can access both the Workforce Management folder in the Business Intelligence Catalog and the corresponding Workforce Management subject areas. The table below outlines which Oracle Fusion Transaction Business Intelligence folders are accessible to predefined HCM job roles.
Business Intelligence Reports
Reports are secured according to the folders in which they are stored. If specific report privileges aren’t set, they are secured at the folder level by default. Permissions can be assigned to folders and reports for Application Roles, Catalog Groups, or individual Users. These permissions can include:
- Read, Execute, Write, or Delete
- Modify Permissions
- Assign Ownership
- Run Publisher Reports
- Schedule Publisher Reports
- View Publisher Outputs.
Reporting Data Duty Roles
Data returned in Oracle Fusion Transaction Business Intelligence (OTBI) reports is secured similarly to data in Oracle Fusion HCM pages. Access to this data is provided through roles linked to security profiles. This section explains the role of Reporting Data Duty Roles in securing OTBI report data and how to enable this access in custom job roles.
Business Intelligence Roles
Business Intelligence roles apply to both Oracle BI Publisher and Oracle Fusion Transaction Business Intelligence. These roles provide access to various Business Intelligence functionalities, such as running or authoring reports. In addition to these roles, users must have roles that grant access to reports, subject areas, Business Intelligence catalog folders, and Oracle Fusion HCM data. This section details the Business Intelligence roles, which are defined as application roles within Oracle Entitlements Server.
BI Consumer Role
The predefined Oracle Fusion Transaction Business Intelligence Transaction Analysis Duty roles include the BI Consumer Role. Custom roles can also be set up to inherit the BI Consumer Role, allowing them to run reports without the ability to create them.
BI Author Role
The BI Author Role includes the BI Consumer Role. Users with this role have the ability to create, modify, and execute Oracle Fusion Transaction Business Intelligence reports.
BI Administrator Role
The BI Administrator Role is a superuser role that encompasses the BI Author Role, which in turn includes the BI Consumer Role. It is advised to assign this role only to users in a test environment. None of the predefined HCM job roles includes the BI Administrator Role.
BI Publisher Data Model Developer Role
The BI Publisher Data Model Developer Role is included in the Application Developer role, which is further included in the Application Implementation Consultant role. Therefore, individuals with either of these predefined roles are able to manage BI Publisher data models.
