What is the difference between Enterprise Data Set and Common Data Set?

If I want the locations to be global locations like in R12, then should I select the Data Set to be Common Data Set or Enterprise Data Set ?

My understanding is that if the data set is not Common or Enterprise Data Set, then it behaves as a local data specific to that data set. Is this correct ?

Regards,

    Hi,

Single tenet system uses common data set as a global data set to access the data entire holding company level.

Example: accenture uses hcm application for maintaining their internal employees. Here we use single tenet.

Example: ADP uses multi tenet system for their clients( EMC2 and EY). Here EMC2 and EY enterprises are different and cannot use common data set here.

So we will use enterprise data set to restrict access only for that company enterprise level.

      1. How do I know if the instance is a multi-tenant instance or a single tenant instance ?

      2. If there are only 1 enterprise, then the Enterprise Set will not be available ?

      3. If I see Enterprise Set and Common Set, does it mean its a multi-tenant environment.

      4. So in case where it is multi-tenant, if I assign Common Set to Job, what will happen ?

      5. In multi-tenant system, are we supposed to use Enterprise Set and not Common set ?
