This tutorial deals with Fusion Payroll, and how it functions.

Having dealt with an overview of Oracle Fusion, you must now be familiar with the basic concepts. We will now move on to the Functional Setup Manager (FSM), and then Common Application Configuration.

The topics covered in this first part of the tutorial are:
● Functional Setup Manager - An Overview
● Offerings
● Implementation Projects

Functional Setup Manager - An Overview

The Functional Setup Manager (FSM) is a central module where implementation takes place in Fusion Applications. It is based on Business Process Management, to optimise or adapt to organisational needs. The FSM is the one place to configure and set up Fusion Applications in a consistent manner.

The role associated with the Functional Setup Manager is Application Implementation Consultant, and unless that role is assigned, a user cannot view the whole of the Functional Setup Manager.

The FSM can be accessed through the Navigator -> Tools -> Setup and Maintenance.

There are prepackaged lists of implementation tasks in the Functional Setup Manager. You can get complete visibility to setup requirements through guided and sequential task lists, which can be downloaded onto Microsoft Excel for project planning. The setup data is entered through easy-to-use user interfaces that are available directly from the task lists.

The Export/Import feature in the Functional Setup Manager allows you a rapid setup by exporting and importing data from one instance to another.

The Functional Setup Manager also provides you comprehensive reporting. A set of built-in reports help you analyse, validate, and audit configurations, implementations, and setup data of your applications in Fusion.

Offerings

An important point to note is that a prerequisite knowledge of the detail requirement and analysis of the implementation is required. This includes an understanding of the industry, legislation, etc. associated with the application.

The offerings provide you with the highest level grouping of functionalities for Oracle Fusion Applications. It contains Application Solution sets that represent one or more business processes and activities, which you can provision and implement as a unit.

There are Implementation Task Lists, which have setup tasks, configurable options, and product-specific features (e.g. costing, which you can check or uncheck). You can enable and provision specific offerings.

Each offering consists of a number of related documents that are provided by Oracle: Offering Content Guide, Setup Task Lists and Tasks Report, Related Features Report, Associated Business Objects Report, and Related Enterprise Applications Report. These can be accessed by navigating to the specific offering’s page. You can download them in PDF, HTML, or Excel formats by clicking on the relevant icon.

To configure offerings, click on Configure Offerings in the Regional Area of the Setup and Maintenance screen. An offering can be enabled, but not provisioned. This means that this particular offering would not be available for implementation unless it is provisioned by buying a license.

Implementation Projects

Implementation Projects are the next step after selecting the required offering(s). They are a list of setup tasks that need to be completed to implement the selected offerings and options.

An implementation project first creates a project by selecting the offerings, options, and features that you want to implement together. Then, it manages the project as a unit throughout the implementation lifecycle. Finally, it assigns these tasks to users and tracks their completion using the included project management tools.

Exporting and importing is also available. Identify which business objects and setup data you want to export or import, and the order in which it is to be done, before starting the export and import process.

There can be one or more implementation projects depending on their complexities. If it is a huge organisation (e.g. a company that is present in different countries), just one implementation project might not suffice. A bigger organisation might mean more complex implementation, and that would require more than one implementation project. Of course, it also depends on what you need to implement.
You can create individual tasks, task lists, and mention the task list scope. Tasks can be assigned to the users who perform their specific tasks. The ownership and progress of each task can be viewed.
