Enhance Search Engine Crawlability with Reverse Proxy for Vanity URL

Vanity URL

In the Oracle recruiting cloud, we know there is a concept of vanity URL, which will help to hide a long string Oracle URL (example:https://xxxy.fa.usx.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/CandidateExperience) from candidates or Internal teams from showing. Instead, a small custom domain (https://jobs. fusionpractices.com) can be shown. We know that this requirement can be achieved using the Vanity URL feature in Oracle Fusion HCM.

Problem

Using the Vanity URL feature can be achieved by hosting an HTML file on the customer’s domain. When Candidate accesses the URL, the HTML is served to the browser which works by internally fetching the subsequent resources directly from fusion application servers. This solution relies on appending (#) hashtag at the end of the Vanity URL and Impacts the Search engine Indexing capability and crawlability to a greater extent.

Solution

To overcome the above problem and to provide a hashtag-free Vanity URL, a new feature called Reverse Proxy Application for Vanity URL is Introduced. Using this feature one can host the reverse proxy application on a cloud service outside of Oracle HCM Cloud. The DNS Provider’s website must be tweaked to point the DNS CNAME entry to the Company’s vanity domain.

Steps to Enable the Solution of Reverse Proxy for Vanity URL

  • Access Setup and Maintenance
  • Click Tasks (document icon), and then click Search
  • Search for task in Setup and Maintenance
  • Search for the Enterprise Recruiting and Candidate Experience Information task >> Click the task name
  • Expand the Candidate Experience section and click Edit
  • Select the Vanity URL option
  • Enter the URL. Example: https://jobs.fusionpractices.com
  • Select the Use reverse proxy setup option
  • Disable the Keep Me Signed In, as enabling this will restrict access to this Vanity URL
  • Click Save

Please note: there are scripts that we would require to set up this feature to complete. Please read the reference and Credits section to access the documentation from Oracle.
