Let’s understand how the Journey of Oracle Fusion Application-the next Generation application started-

After the acquisition of PeopleSoft and its sister firm JD Edwards in Dec 2004, Oracle announced that a new product, Fusion, is to be released in the near future. Oracle said Fusion will take the best aspects of the PeopleSoft, JD Edwards and Oracle Applications and merge them into a new product suite. Oracle has been working hard for several years is building Oracle Fusion Applications which are released in 2010. Below are the sequence of events happened-

Year 2005    - Understanding the features and finalize the base software

                       Get the platforms ready for development.

Year 2006     -Finalize the team and start on the Functional designs plus some development.

                      Training on the new Tech-stack.

Year 2007/08 - Development.

2009 onwards- Testing rounds. 

Year 2010       - Fusion Application Released

In the recent years we heard terms like “Fusion Middleware”, “Fusion Development Tools”, and “Fusion Technology”, Fusion Applications is not any of them. Rather Fusion Application is a Business application. Fusion Application is not any of the current applications (EBS, PSFT, Siebel, JDE). Fusion Application is all of the current applications (EBS, PSFT, Siebel, JDE) and assimilate best of breed features from EBS, JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, Siebel. The first version of Fusion Applications include the following modules:

• Financials
• HCM
• CRM
• SCM
• Procurement
• Project Portfolio Management
• Enterprise Performance Management
• GRC

Oracle Fusion Financials are integrated with Oracle Hyperion components which are -                    

• Oracle Hyperion reporting tools.
• Oracle Essbase.
• Oracle Hyperion Financial Management System.

Oracle Hyperion reporting tools delivers a unique reporting platform. This reporting platform unique is embedded with multi-dimensional data model which allows users to quickly analyze data from different perspectives from the same system that is used for entering transactions and generating financial and management reports. This also provides business users with a highly interactive user experience when manipulating and analyzing data.

Oracle Essbase provides excellent query performance and it allows large quantities of data to be stored and organized in a very efficient way that can be accessed and analyzed quickly for initiative and immediate decision support.

User Interface Changes

• Web 2.0 features integrated within applications (RSS Feeds, Presence Detection, On-Line Collaboration, “Social Networking”, Tags )
• ‘Contextual Information’ to support transactions can be easily displayed within the transaction.
• Embedded Analytics (BI), in task screens at the point at which the information is needed to perform task / make decision. (Transactional based BI based on summary tables in the application.)
• Embedded Learning (Help / Tutorials / Video)
• UI, and the way in which information is searched and presented is consistent across all applications.
• ‘Grid’ presentation of information allows far greater flexibility of manipulation. E.g. Excel like capability to sort / filter / search / display / hide columns / freeze panes etc.
• User activity driven by Worklists / Watchlists
• No longer called ‘Forms’, now called ‘Pages’.
• The UIs also called Pages have consistent layout throughout the Fusion Application and they all are based upon the common framework called - Application Development Framework (ADF).

Fusion Application Features-

• Oracle Fusion Financials introduced Configurable Dashboards. These Configurable Dash Boards consolidate information from a variety of sources, actively monitor process.
• It means all this information is displayed on the single page, users no longer need to perform time-wasted searches, access multiple transaction pages or run multiple reports to understand their priorities.
• For example the Payable’s Manger Dashboard. A payable Manager typically has to run multiple reports or queries and access multiple screens to resolve problems.
• Oracle Fusion Payables provides a Payable Manager Dashboard that tracks status of supplier invoices , such as invoices requiring approval, invoices on hold, suppliers on hold, and more all from a consolidated page,
• Now the Payable Manager can takes the action directly from the Dashboard to resolve issues.
• Embedded analytics provides the key pieces of information that every role needs in order to best complete or manage a business process, and delivers that information directly to transactional applications.
• The interactive dashboard helps to manage business execution across processes, roles, and organizations against corporate objectives and strategy. Users should be able to drill down further into the underlying detail transactions to investigate problem areas.
• The post button will now implement one-step posting. When you press the post button, it will execute all necessary actions to post the batch. Once all of the necessary steps are done, it will then submit posting for the batch.
